Grading and Book Circulation
In library and Media class, each student is graded on listening, thinking, following media center rules/procedures, and showing readiness to respond to questions and activities. Class participation, completion of assigned tasks, retention of previous lessons, and the demonstration of knowledge gained are an integral part of the evaluation.
Each student is encouraged to check out books from the Media Center. Kindergarten and first grade students may check out one book at a time. Second through fourth grade students can check out two books. Fifth grade students can sign out three books. Books are checked out for two weeks and can be renewed for an additional week. Students who do not return their books will receive an overdue notice reminder. If the book is lost or destroyed, payment is requested for the replacement cost.
Students may visit the Media Center at any time with classroom teacher’s permission, to checkout/return books. During book selection, students have the freedom to select books of special interest to them. Additionally, if you feel that certain themes or subjects should be omitted from your child’s reading, please discuss this with your child. I also encourage families to regularly visit the Howard County Library.
I hope you will encourage the love of reading by enjoying the media books with your children. You can help your child have a positive experience with books by:
· Enjoying books with your child;
· Helping your child find a quiet place to read;
· Letting your child see you read for enjoyment;
· Helping your child find a safe place for library media books, out of reach of the family pet and little brothers and sisters;
· Reminding your child to return books.
Parents are always welcome in the Library Media Center. If you have any questions concerning the Library Media Center please feel free to contact me.
